DigiSkills is free. So why pay?
An honest comparison of DigiSkills, Saylani Mass IT Training and a paid institute in Lahore, written by a paid institute. Every figure below was read off the programme’s own page on 17 September 2026 and is named, so you can check it.
In short
DigiSkills is free, real and run by the Government of Pakistan. If you learn well from recorded video on your own, take it, and do not pay anyone. Two things usually stop people: enrolment is not open today, their own FAQ says Batch-05 opens in November 2026, and a recorded course cannot look at your work. Saylani Mass IT Training is also free, but it runs an entry test and holds classes on campus, and out of its 64 campuses exactly one is in Lahore. A paid batch at InnoTech costs Rs 5,000 a month, starts when you are ready, caps the batch at 15 students, and ends with 15 days spent on finding you a paying client. That is the whole difference, and it is not the videos.

What DigiSkills actually is
All of this comes from the DigiSkills FAQ and course pages on digiskills.pk, read on 17 September 2026. We are not going to shade it, because a student who finds out later that we shaded it will not trust anything else on this site.
Government, free, and not a scam
An initiative of the Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of IT and Telecom and Ignite, the National Technology Fund, executed by Virtual University of Pakistan. There is no fee of any kind. People search “is DigiSkills real or fake” every month, and the answer is that it is real.
24 courses, but two per batch
They currently offer 24 courses, from Graphics Design and Video Editing to Full Stack Development with MERN. Their FAQ also says a trainee can take a maximum of two courses in one batch, and recommends learning two or three skills rather than collecting more.
Recorded video, your own pace, in Urdu and English
Everything runs through their online LMS. Each week’s videos and material go live on the Monday at 11:00 AM, and you can either follow the timetable or self-pace. The content is built for a Pakistani audience in a mix of Urdu and English, which is genuinely good work.
There is support, and you should use it
Their FAQ lists three ways to ask a question: the LMS discussion board, online support, and a phone number, 0304-111-1570, where a coach answers. That is more than most free courses anywhere give you. It is still not the same as someone opening your file in class.
A real certificate, soft copy only
Meet the course completion criteria and you get an e-Certificate issued by Virtual University of Pakistan. Their FAQ is clear that eligible trainees get only the verified soft copy, downloaded from the LMS. There is no printed copy.
It does not promise a job, and says so
Their own FAQ: the programme will not offer jobs to trainees, it offers skill based training so they can get projects from freelance markets. We respect that line. Any institute that promises you a job for a three month fee is selling you something else.
The two DigiSkills facts that decide it for most people
You cannot start today
Their FAQ, read on 17 September 2026: enrolment for Batch-05 opens in November 2026, exact date to be announced, first come first served, and enrolment opens about a month before a batch starts. Batch-04 classes began on 3 August 2026. So somebody deciding today is choosing between waiting a few months and starting now.
You are one of tens of thousands
Their own course catalogue shows enrolled trainee counts: Freelancing 28,808, Video Editing, Animation and Vlogging 17,619, Graphic Design 17,386, Full Stack with MERN 9,815, WordPress 7,445. That scale is the achievement of the programme and also its limit. Nobody in a group that size is waiting for your file.
What Saylani Mass IT Training actually is
Read off saylanimit.com on 17 September 2026. Saylani is a different shape of free: a welfare trust running physical campuses, not an online programme.
Free, but you sit a test
You fill a registration form and then sit an entry test, and the site has an Entry Test Status page where you check whether you got in. Free here does not mean open admission, and thousands apply for the sittings that make the news.
64 campuses, one in Lahore
Their campus map lists 64 campuses across 17 cities, most of them in Karachi. The single Lahore entry is the GOC Lhr LGITE 11 Div Campus on Shalimar Link Road, Shalimar Town. If you are in Jubilee Town, Township or Model Town, that is a long daily commute.
Long courses, and not all open
Their courses run long by design: Video Content Creation with AI four months, Odoo Functional Consultant ten months, Professional Communication three months. Admission status is per course, and when we checked, Video Content Creation with AI said admissions are currently closed.
And the other free routes, so this page is complete
These three are also free and also government backed. We are naming them rather than listing details, because their intake rules and dates change, and the only figure worth trusting is the one on their own site the day you apply. PSDF, the Punjab Skills Development Fund, funds short courses at approved centres across Punjab. NAVTTC, the federal vocational training commission, runs free trade and IT courses through registered institutes. e-Rozgaar 2.0, from the Punjab IT Board, trains people for freelancing. If one of them is running the exact course you want, near you, with intake open, take it.
So what are you actually paying us for
Not the videos. Everything in a Photoshop or WordPress syllabus is already free somewhere, in Urdu, today. Here is the honest list of what Rs 5,000 a month buys that free does not.
Somebody opens your file
A batch is capped at 15 students. The instructor looks at your design, your cut or your code, and tells you what is wrong with it this week, not in a comment thread. This is the single thing recorded video cannot do at any budget.
Somebody notices when you stop
Most people who quit an online course quit quietly in the third or fourth week. In a small batch that gets noticed the same week. If you have already started a free course and not finished it, that is the honest reason to pay, and it is a good enough reason.
You start this month
Morning, evening and weekend batches, at the campus in Jubilee Town or live on Zoom with the recording. No November window, no entry test, no minimum qualification, and you can pay month by month instead of in one lump.
The last 15 days are about money
Every course ends with 15 days on profiles, pricing, proposals and outreach, so you leave with a real lead or a first paying client rather than only a certificate. That part is the actual product, and no free programme in Pakistan currently does it.
Pick honestly
Take DigiSkills if
You have finished an online course before without anyone pushing you. You can wait for the November window. You want to try a field before spending on it. You are outside Lahore and want something purely online. Money is genuinely tight, in which case do not let anybody, including us, talk you into a fee.
Take Saylani if
You want a campus and a long course at no cost, you can reach Shalimar Link Road on a daily basis, you can clear the entry test, and you can give four to ten months to it. For a lot of students that trade is worth it.
Pay for a batch if
You have started free courses and stopped. You want your work checked by a person. You want to start now, in a small group, near home, and you want the course to end with a client rather than a PDF. Then Rs 5,000 a month is a fair price, and you can see every course fee on our fees page before you talk to anyone.
Free versus paid, answered
Is DigiSkills government or private?
Government. Their own FAQ says DigiSkills is an initiative of the Government of Pakistan, led by the Ministry of IT and Telecom through Ignite, the National Technology Fund, and executed by Virtual University of Pakistan. It is not a private academy and it is not a scam.
Is DigiSkills enrolment open right now?
Not on 17 September 2026. Their own FAQ says enrolment for Batch-05 of DigiSkills 3.0 opens in November 2026, with the exact date to be announced, on a first come first served basis. Batch-04 classes started on 3 August 2026. So if you want to start this month, DigiSkills is not an option you can take today, and that timing is usually the real reason people look at a paid institute.
Is the DigiSkills certificate worth it?
It is a real e-Certificate issued by Virtual University of Pakistan when you meet the course completion criteria, and it costs you nothing, so it is worth having. What it is not is a hiring document. DigiSkills says plainly in its own FAQ that the programme does not offer jobs, it offers training. In Pakistan no certificate gets you hired on its own, free or paid. The work you can show does. Judge any course, including ours, on what you will have built by the end of it.
Is there a hard copy of the DigiSkills certificate?
No. Their FAQ says eligible trainees get only a verified soft copy for each completed course, downloaded from the LMS under My Results. If a printed certificate handed to you matters, that is one of the small differences between a free online programme and a campus.
How many courses can I take in one DigiSkills batch?
Two. Their FAQ says a trainee can take a maximum of two courses in one batch out of the 24 on offer, which is why they suggest picking two or three skills and sticking with them rather than collecting courses.
Does Saylani Mass IT Training have a campus in Lahore?
Yes, one. Their campus list shows 64 campuses across 17 cities, and the single Lahore entry is the GOC Lhr LGITE 11 Div Campus on Shalimar Link Road, Shalimar Town. Most of their campuses are in Karachi. If you live in the south or west of Lahore, check the travel time before you commit, because their classes are held on campus.
Do you need to pass a test to join Saylani?
Yes. Their enrolment page takes an application and then an entry test, and the site has an Entry Test Status page where you check your result. Free does not mean open admission. InnoTech has no entry test and no minimum qualification.
DigiSkills or a paid institute, which is better?
They are different products, not better and worse versions of the same one. DigiSkills gives you recorded video in Urdu and English, on your own schedule, free, from the government, with a coach you can message or call. A paid batch gives you a live instructor who opens your file and tells you what is wrong with it, a batch capped at 15, a campus you can walk into, and a start date this month instead of November. If recorded courses have worked for you before, take the free one. If you have started one and stopped, you are not buying content, you are buying someone who notices when you stop.
What does a paid computer course cost in Lahore?
At InnoTech, Rs 5,000 a month for Digital Marketing with AI, Graphic Designing, Video Editing and Office Management, and Rs 9,000 a month for Web Development, paid month by month, so a full course is Rs 15,000 to Rs 36,000. Elsewhere in Lahore, published prices we read on 17 September 2026 include ICT Trainings at Rs 25,000 for two months of graphic design and Rs 30,000 for three months of web development, and Omni Academy at Rs 80,000 for graphic design. PNY Trainings, Nexskill and Baabroz publish no fee at all, and Corvit keeps its fee list inside an image.
Are free government courses in Pakistan any good?
The material is usually solid, and for a lot of people it is enough. DigiSkills has run since 2018 with 24 courses, and Saylani has campuses in 17 cities. The honest catch is not quality, it is attention and timing: recorded lectures cannot see your work, batches open on their calendar and not yours, and nobody follows up when you disappear in week three. Those are the exact things a small paid batch sells.
