Which computer certificate counts for a government job? Often, none. They test you.

We read real PPSC and FPSC ads line by line. Here's what they actually ask for, quoted, with the ad number, so you can stop paying for paper that nobody checks.

In short

Punjab clerk posts: no certificate. PPSC asks for 25 to 40 words a minute and MS Office skill, then tests both itself. Computer operator and data entry posts: a 3 month or 1 year diploma from a recognized institute, meaning PBTE, TEVTA or NAVTTC. Federal posts: the government’s own NITB course. So for most people the thing to buy is skill, typing speed and real Excel, and the thing to check is the ad.

Ads quoted from ppsc.gop.pk and FPSC copies, read on 5 October 2026. Page updated 19 October 2026.

What the ads actually say

Word for word, from the advertisement, not from an academy’s brochure.

PPSC 46/2025 · 5 Dec 2025

Junior Clerk, BS-11

Intermediate, second division. “A speed of 25 words per minute of typing on computer in English; and Proficient in Microsoft Office… and he shall demonstrate such proficiency.” No certificate named. About a fifth of the written paper is MS Office and computer questions.

PPSC 46/2025 · same ad

Junior Computer Operator, BS-12

Intermediate plus “One year’s Diploma in Computer software or hardware from a recognized Institution” and 25 words a minute. The written test is 100 percent MS Office and IT, and only those who pass it sit the typing and proficiency tests.

FPSC 183/24 · July 2024

Upper Division Clerk, BS-13

Matric, 30 words a minute, and a “3 Weeks Basic IT Training course (including MS Office) conducted by NITB”. Federal posts want the government’s own course, not a private one. Pakistan Railways asked for the same in August 2026.

Two older PPSC ads show the other version of the rule. A 2024 Junior Computer Operator post asked for a 3 month diploma in MS Office from a recognized institute, or ICS, with 40 words a minute. A 2020 Data Entry Operator post asked for 3 months of MS Office training “from TEVTA or any other recognized institute” and 30 words a minute.

How to check an institute before you pay

No PPSC ad we read defines “recognized institute”. These three official lists are how you check, and they take five minutes.

1. PBTE affiliation list

The Punjab Board of Technical Education lets you search affiliated institutes by district and course on pbte.edu.pk. If the course you're paying for isn't on it, the diploma isn't a PBTE diploma.

2. NAVTTC partners

NAVTTC lists its partner institutes and keeps an NVQF registry on navttc.gov.pk. TEVTA institutes are government institutes, so their own site is the check.

3. Verify the paper later

After you pass, PBTE has a verification page for diplomas and result cards. A department can check your paper there too, which is exactly why a fake one is worse than none.

Where a course like ours fits, honestly

Where it helps

PPSC clerk posts test you, they don't read your certificate. Our Office Management course spends 3 months on Word, Excel and PowerPoint to a working standard, at Rs 6,500 a month. That is the part of the test that decides the result.

Where it doesn't

If your ad asks for a diploma from a recognized institute, look for a PBTE, TEVTA or NAVTTC course and check it on their list first. Ask any institute, us included, which board its course is affiliated with before you pay. We'd rather you get the right paper than the wrong one from us.

Certificates for government jobs, answered

Which computer certificate is valid for a government job in Pakistan?

It depends on the post. Punjab clerk posts through PPSC usually ask for no certificate at all: they ask for typing speed and MS Office skill, and then test both. Computer operator and data entry posts ask for a 3 month or 1 year diploma from a recognized institute. Federal posts through FPSC ask for the NITB Basic IT course. Read the exact line in the ad you're applying to.

Do I need a computer certificate for a junior clerk job in Punjab?

Usually not. PPSC advertisement 46/2025 for Junior Clerk BS-11 asks for intermediate in second division, 25 words per minute typing in English, and proficiency in MS Office which the candidate shall demonstrate. No certificate is named. About 20 percent of the written paper is MS Office and computer questions, followed by a typing test and an MS Office test.

What typing speed is required for government jobs?

Between 25 and 40 words per minute in the PPSC and FPSC ads we read. PPSC Junior Clerk 46/2025 asked for 25, a 2020 Data Entry Operator ad asked for 30, the FPSC Upper Division Clerk asked for 30, and a PPSC Junior Computer Operator post in 2024 asked for 40. Aim for 40 and you clear all of them.

What does a recognized institute mean?

No PPSC ad we read defines it. In practice it means an institute affiliated with the Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE), a TEVTA institute, or one registered with NAVTTC. One 2020 PPSC ad named TEVTA directly. You can search PBTE affiliation on pbte.edu.pk and NAVTTC partner institutes on navttc.gov.pk before you pay anyone.

Is the DigiSkills certificate valid for government jobs?

We found no PPSC or FPSC ad that names DigiSkills, and no ruling that it counts as a 3 month diploma from a recognized institute. The certificate itself is real and issued by Virtual University. For clerk posts it hardly matters, because PPSC tests the skill. For a post that demands a diploma, don't rely on it without asking the department.

Is a private institute certificate valid for a government job?

Only when the institute is affiliated with PBTE or registered with TEVTA or NAVTTC, and only for the course on that affiliation. A certificate from an unaffiliated private institute, ours included, is proof of skill and not a recognized diploma. Ask any institute which board its course is affiliated with, then check that yourself on the board's own site.

What is the NITB course for federal jobs?

The Basic IT Training course run by the National Information Technology Board. FPSC ads for Upper Division Clerk ask for its 3 week version including MS Office, and Assistant BS-15 must complete the 6 week version before probation ends. A Pakistan Railways junior clerk ad in August 2026 asked for the same 3 week course. It's arranged through the department, not bought privately.

What is DIT, and is it worth doing for a government job?

DIT is the two year Diploma in Information Technology from PBTE, whose 2026 admission schedule was released on 18 August 2026. It meets the strictest wording, a one year or longer diploma from a recognized institution, which a Junior Computer Operator post asked for in PPSC ad 46/2025. For a clerk post it's more than you need. For computer operator posts it's the safe choice.
